The city of Westbrook, Maine is trying to revitalize its town, and the riverfront walk is one aspect of the revitalization. The harsh environment and proximity to water made the choice to specify galvanizing relatively simple.
Galvanizing is able to withstand the aggressive surroundings of the environment without requiring expensive, continual maintenance. The durable coating was a perfect fit for the public works project because there is a very small budget for continual maintenance. To increase the durability and corrosion protection afforded by galvanizing, the railings were specified for a duplex system. The duplex system enhances the aesthetic appeal of the project while extending the low-maintenance corrosion protection in the adverse environment. The revitalization of the Westbrook Riverfront will last for years to come.
