Several new building projects at the University of Cincinnati were specified for hot-dip galvanized steel because of the continued success and performance of the coating on previous projects. The university has attended a number of Galvanize It! seminars over the past decade, and the awareness of using galvanized steel among university officials has become apparent.
All interior and exterior structural steel in the project was hot-dip galvanized.
The new student recreation center was specified for hot-dip galvanized steel because of its maintenance-free, corrosion protection properties. All interior and exterior structural steel in the project was hot-dip galvanized. The university recognized that the interior steel would be exposed to elements from the indoor pool and humidity, and wanted to ensure the steel was protected. With over 35,000 students on campus, once the recreation center was open, the university could ill afford to close it down for costly maintenance. By choosing to hot-dip galvanize the interior steel as well as any exterior steel will allow University of Cincinnati students to enjoy the center uninterrupted for many years to come.
