The training center project is a joint venture between the Washington Capitals and the Arlington County and is the practice facility for the Capitals National Hockey League (NHL) team. This facility houses two NHL sized ice rinks exposed to corrosive elements in the inside atmosphere and environment.
20 tons of steel were hot-dip galvanized, including steel panels that create the walls of the ice rinks, and all connecting hardware: plates, bolts, nuts, and washers.
Due to the high usage of the ice rink, hot-dip galvanizing was chosen because of Becker Arena Products previous experience with the product. The BAP group has designed, built, and installed two NHL sized galvanized steel dasher board systems, and noted the success of hot-dip galvanized steel. In all, 20 tons of steel were hot-dip galvanized, including steel panels that create the walls of the ice rinks, and all connecting hardware: plates, bolts, nuts and washers. With this HDG immersion, the ice rinks now are free from corrosion and maintenance repairs that will allow unlimited ice time for the Capitals to practice.
