Guard-All Building Solutions (GABS) completed work for the Twentynine Palms Base recycling center in January, 2013. This is a 120 x 120 facility located on the USMC base in San Bernardino County, California. With a total base population of approximately 8,500 soldiers, the recycling center had to be not only spacious and functional, but also Marine Tough.
The base is located in the High Desert and Morongo Basin region of the Mojave Desert. The terrain, weather and history of the Twentynine Palms Base presented certain challenges to this project. Not only can the area be extremely sloped, but ancient lava flows and dried lake beds can fill during rains and create powerful floods. And as if Mother Nature didnt create enough challenges for this project, the base still has unexploded rounds of artillery on the premises. Thus, any unauthorized travel outside of the construction site was prohibited. GABS was able to provide all qualities of a functional facility with this structure, despite the many challenges.
