This project is used for the city of Chicago's recycling program. The project's engineers and contractors convinced the city to scrap the original specification and galvanize the structural steel for all 470,000 sq ft of the recycling facility buildings. Several plants throughout the United States provided the galvanizing.
This turnaround time would not be realistic if any other corrosion prevention system was used.
One of the largest fabricated pieces, weighing 5.5 tons (5 tonnes), was entirely immersed in a single dip. Many of the loads had to be scheduled with 12 to 48 hour turnaround times from the galvanizers for direct delivery to the jobsite. This turnaround time would not be realistic if any other corrosion prevention system was used. Galvanizers created a better product, met construction deadlines and remained within budget due to the collaborative efforts of all companies involved.
