Agritek was well aware of the abuse their manufacturing building would receive from running three shifts processing metal goods. The building would be exposed to welding fumes, oil mist, corrosive water vapor, and steel scale as well as four extreme seasons of Michigan weather. The owner of Agritek, Larry Kooiker, wanted to construct a sustainable building that could withstand these rigors and be safe and inviting to the work force. Kookier said galvanized steel was a win win material to incorporate into the building.
In addition to the corrosion protection which exceeded the other coatings considered, the durability and finish ultimately sold Agritek on hot-dip galvanized steel. After continued research and during the finalizing of plans, Agritek was so convinced galvanized steel was the only solution, they started to find other areas to use the coating, including a combination of sheet metal, corrugated panels, and hot-dipped pieces all the way to the walking grates entering the facility.
