The Tilt Master Workstation is utilized in a variety of material handling applications. Normally painted, this unit was specified to be galvanized because of the environment in which it is to be used. Vestils end user planned to use these units in an environment where chemical splash and spills are the norm. In addition, daily wash down is required. The standard paint system was not up to the task of providing corrosion protection is such a harsh environment.
The customer demanded a much better corrosion resistant system than the regular paint coating. Galvanizing was the best and only option approved. With close communication between the manufacturer and the galvanizer, analysis of the chemicals was done to insure that the hot dip galvanized coating was the right choice. Corrosion of the unit from the inside out was a major concern. With a lifting capacity of 2000# a catastrophic failure from undetected corrosion on the inside could prove to be dangerous to the operator, the product and the equipment. The galvanizer and the designer worked together to improve the design which insured that the inside and outside of this unit will have a long lasting corrosion free service life. Proper venting of the tubular sections allow the zinc to coat the entire unit, inside and out.
Due to the economic value provided, now hot dip galvanizing is being considered as the standard coating for all future units. Vestil has over 3500 different products and the use of hot dip galvanizing on this unit could change the coating specification on many more of their material handling products.
