Serving as a striking focal point within a revitalized neighborhood park in Detroit, this obelisk sculpture was designed to symbolize resilience, strength, and unity. Rising from its urban surroundings, the sculpture brings a contemporary civic presence to the community while celebrating the enduring nature of steel. Its bold form and carefully detailed surfaces create a visual landmark that engages visitors throughout the day and into the evening, reinforcing the park’s role as a place of gathering and renewal.
The sculpture was hot-dip galvanized to ensure long-term corrosion protection in Detroit’s demanding climate. Intricate perforations within the steel structure allow light to pass through, creating dynamic visual effects while presenting complex surfaces that required complete and uniform coating. Hot-dip galvanizing was selected to preserve both the artistic integrity and structural durability of the piece, providing a maintenance-free, corrosion-resistant finish well suited for a public urban environment. The completed sculpture demonstrates how galvanizing seamlessly merges form and function, delivering lasting performance while supporting meaningful civic expression.
