Stevenage Station is located in the center of the British city of Stevenage. As in many cities, there was a desire to reduce traffic volumes. Together with Fatkin Architects, Huber Parking has designed a parking garage in the immediate vicinity of the Nordbahnhof and the bus station that meets this requirement: It is not just a place to park cars, but also bundles a variety of means of transport in one place, making it the city’s new mobility hub.
Galvanizing offers long-lasting corrosion protection, the facade is maintenance-free and weather-resistant. At the end of its life cycle the façade sheets are also 100% recyclable.
The building sits at the gateway of the town showing the two most prominent facades to the major transit routes with the intent of capturing the passer-by with a subtle and uniform surface onto which bolder graphics are applied. To the western elevation, an image will showcase the role Stevenage played in building the ExoMars rover and the town’s other scientific achievements. To the east, the car park will display the town’s motto “The heart of a town lies in its people”.
Hot-dip galvanized facades have been an architectural trend for years and offer numerous advantages. Galvanizing offers long-lasting corrosion protection, the facade is maintenance-free and weather-resistant. At the end of its life cycle the façade sheets are also 100% recyclable.
However, this facade has another special feature: It was hot-dip galvanized with Green-Zinc. Green-Zinc is produced exclusively with renewable energy from hydro and wind power. It is stated to be <1kg CO2/kg Zn. That means approx. 5,7 tonns of CO2 have been avoided due to using Green-Zinc for galvanizing
