Spruce River Dam controls levels and outflow from Anglin Lake in northern Saskatchewan, Canada. As part of a major structure overhaul and safety upgrade, the existing stoplog monorail system was replaced with a new hot-dip galvanized (HDG) monorail superstructure; new HDG stoplogs, lifting beam, and storage racking; new HDG hoist storage house superstructure; and other miscellaneous HDG site improvements such as new fencing and handrails.
Hot-dip galvanizing provides the Owner with a "do it once and forget about it" steel protection system.
Hot-dip galvanizing was chosen for its superior long-term durability and corrosion resistance in both wet and dry environments. Hot-dip galvanizing is also a forgiving system that is less prone to workmanship issues (such as flaws in coating systems) and works well with winter construction where ambient temperatures are too cold for site-applied finishes. It is also our opinion that a similarly performing coating system would be more expensive than hot-dip galvanizing to initially apply and would also require more periodic maintenance. Hot-dip galvanizing provides the Owner with a "do it once and forget about it" steel protection system.
