The Dallas-Fort Worth International Airports (DFW) Skylink people mover was developed to unite the airports existing terminal with the new terminal D. The elevated structure stands 50 feet above ground, so it required stairs for maintenance and emergency escape. These components, though unglamorous, are critical to the operation and safety of the Skylink, and thus safety was a huge concern. Hot-dip galvanized steel was the perfect solutions, allowing these access stairs to be put up and essentially forgotten without worrying about structural integrity. The maintenance-free longevity of hot-dip galvanizing ensures these security features will be in place for decades providing efficient transfers to the travelers at DFW.
