This most recent Park and Ride parking structure is one of many located along Trimet's Light Rail Transportation System. Other than the basic concrete decking and pillars, the balance of this structure is all composed of exterior steel. Galvanized steel is a standard specification for these structures. Although the decorative "reeds" in the background are not galvanized, the embeds they are attached to are and the decorative plaques which continue this "reed theme" are galvanized as well.
This parking structure is located on a very busy trafficway with constant exposure to vehicular exhaust and road debris. As well as being located in Oregon's extremely volatile climate. The choice of galvanized steel was due to corrosion control over design life, final appearance, harshness of the environment, and sustainability.
Multiple challenges were faced while galvanizing this structure. Many of the items were oversized and had to be progressively dipped. There were many screens and handrails with screens that required extra handling to avoid warpage. Being a public structure with high volume occupancy, extra handling was required to insure no sharps were left behind that may cause injury.
This transit line will be continuing to grow in the future with similar Park and Ride structures added along the way.

The main components in the structure were handrails, beams, screens, stairs, frames, ladders. The supporting components were embed plates, brackets, connection plates.
