Polar Park is a baseball park in Worcester, Massachusetts, serving as the home of the Worcester Red Sox, a Minor League Baseball team competing at the Triple-A level and an affiliate of the Boston Red Sox and opened in May for the 2021 Triple-A season.
Worcester is an old city that is making a comeback. Polar Park is the lynchpin of the rejuvenation and has spurred projects upwards of $240 million to strengthen the economy of New England’s second largest city.
The architecture, siting, and overall design of the ballpark pays considerable attention to the unique characteristics of the Canal District. The ballpark was designed to seamlessly fit into the Canal District and complement the existing feel of the area.
Because of the impact Polar Park has on the City, it was critical to ensure that the project represent the “best of the best” in all facets including the aesthetics and longevity. Minimizing the potential of corrosion to the exposed steel caused by the atmosphere in this industrial city was a key factor in specifying hot-dip galvanizing.
