The Overbrook Line Light Rail System was installed in Allegheny County Pennsylvania replacing an old trolley line that had been out of operation for 10 years. When the county was looking into a new commuter system, and ultimately decided on the light rail system, they were looking for a minimum lifespan of 30 years.
The rail system was specified for hot-dip galvanizing because the durable coating is able to withstand the constant rail traffic and unpredictable weather of the region and still surpass the lifespan required. The new light rail line will continue to provide the citizens of Allegheny County with a dependable transportation and commuter system well into the future.
