The Star consisted of three sections that all required progressive dipping. Due to public exposure, handling was critical. Once the Star was galvanized, the finish was above expectations and the painting step was removed from the specifications.
The ornamental Star, handrails, tables, gated entrance, and hardware were all hot-dip galvanized so that the thousands of visitors will see the sturdy quality and endurance of the Texas people. As you enter southeast Texas from Louisiana, you will notice a star on the horizon. It's the Lone Star of Texas, galvanized-style! Thousands of tourists will visit the center annually so attention needed to be on the quality of the coating, both for appearance and corrosion prevention.
