In the relatively remote area on the Ohio River, the Meldahl Dams Recreational Fishing Pier was installed. Access for repainting equipment is limited so a long lasting, maintenance free, initial coating was necessary.
Part of the structure is underwater at all times. As the river levels rise, the permanently installed, fixed position pier will be completely under water multiple times each year. The owner and fabricator had previous experience with hot-dip galvanizing. They knew that hot-dip galvanizing easy to specify, easy to access and would provide the long lasting corrosion resistance they needed. Hot-dip galvanizing was specified for this project because of its superior performance in an environment that includes exposure to rain and snow; and continuous contact with water. Now they can forget about maintenance and concentrate on the big one that got away.
