The 42-ton (38-tonne) stepped and domed roof was gently lowered into place using a 300-ton (272-tonne) crane. A high-humidity and condensation-rich atmosphere called for a protective coating that could withstand these beastly conditions. The home of the king of the jungle definitely justifies using the king of corrosion prevention - that's why hot-dip galvanizing was specified for Lincoln Park Zoo's new Lion House. Use of hot-dip galvanizing ensures that the lions will not be disrupted for pesky maintenance operations.
