Past subsea devices have combated corrosion using specialized, multi-step paints with varying levels of success. With paint, even a minor scratch can quickly result in corroding steel underneath, and once a sensor is deployed to the ocean bottom, repainting is not an option. To support the USPs long-term deploymentup to five years or morein harsh and remote locations, a combination of hot-dip galvanizing and powder coating was selected to provide the high levels of durability and corrosion protection the USP demands.
