Encircling the world famous La Brea Tar Pits and the surrounding museums, the vertical pickets and gates of the Hancock Park Improvements take advantage of the benefits of hot-dip galvanized steel and a duplex system. The improvements in the area were part of a beautification effort for the Tar Pits, and after the pieces were galvanized they received a green 2-part epoxy coating for additional corrosion protection.
By taking advantage of a duplex system, you get the best of both worlds the aesthetic you desire and the unparalleled corrosion protection that hot-dip galvanized steel provides. While the zinc coating already provides superior barrier and cathodic protection, adding a second form of protection (such as paint or powder coating) increases the expected life of the project by 1.5 to 2 times. This means the fencing surrounding the moist, corrosive tar pit environment will remain rust-free for crowds of tourist on into the future.
