The Framingham Public Library had been served for several years by a two story parking garage that had fallen into disrepair. The Town appropriated funds to tear down the garage and build a surface lot. The major challenges were to create access compliant with the Americans With Disabilities Act, develop a public entrance from the main street, and provide a long-lasting, maintenance-free product.
To meet these goals, the architects designed clear topped canopies supported by structural columns at the front entrance as well as the ADA access ramp. Having worked with the galvanizer on previous projects, the architects specified hot dip galvanizing as the long-term corrosion protection mechanism and realizing that there would be a significant amount of field welding, specified a galvanizer-applied epoxy primer for a field topcoat. The final appearance was an aesthetically pleasing project.
