Lee C. Moore's drilling rigs can be found on the job of virtually every major drilling company around the world in a variety of environments, including off shore. These rigs are very large which makes them difficult to handle and transport. Job site material handling is often rough and tumble.
The durability of hot-dip galvanizing (HDG) makes it the perfect coating for these conditions without special handling or packaging. Drilling rigs are exposed to and expected to be operational in extreme weather and temperature conditions as well as harsh chemical environments. Fortunately HDG can withstand termperatures ranging from -75 degrees F to 392 degrees F and performs well in a pH range of 4.5 to 12.5. In addition to creating a barrier between steel and the envirnoment, zinc has the ability to cathodically protect the substrate metal, even if the coating is damaged. The excellent field performance of a hot-dip galvanized coating provides the customer with a durable and cost-effective product that requires little or no maintenance, despite the size and complexity of the rig.
