The CHOP Hub for Clinical Collaboration at 3501 Civic Center Boulevard, is the newest addition to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia complex in University City, West Philadelphia. Designed by Perkins+Will, the building stands 377 feet tall, with 19 high-ceiled floors. The modern structure will add over 550,000 square feet of space and 560 new beds for future patients.
Hot-dip galvanizing was chosen for the corrosion performance and the longevity of the coating.
The steel used in The HUB for Clinical Collaboration expansion was fabricated in the Virginia and New Jersey plants of Banker Steel Company. The company fabricated and erected 9,000 tons of structural steel for Turner Construction on the project. The top floors of the The HUB for Clinical Collaboration is where you will find more than 550 tons of hot-dip galvanized steel members. This includes the enclosures for the rooftop mechanical equipment and a two story high screen wall. Hot-dip galvanizing was chosen for the corrosion performance and the longevity of the coating. Over the course of time this will minimize preventative maintenance and allow the steel framing to last for decades to come.
