A highly visible and extremely busy public transit facility, the Berlin Train Station needed durable, attractive corrosion protection for all of its stair and handicap access rails. Also, any maintenance would create long waits and inconveniences for travelers, so minimal maintenance was key. Hot-dip galvanized steel provided a solution to these problems.

Paint, which requires continuous maintenance and touch-ups throughout the life of the project, incurs all the extra costs and inconveniences of such a requirement. In a setting were service and speed are critical, galvanized steel will protect the steel maintenance free for 75 years or more.
