Built to service all 28 locomotives and 78 passenger cars that run on the Capital Corridor and San Joaquin lines for CalTrans, the maintenance facility integrated no-maintenance, hot-dip galvanized steel into most facets of the design.
The ultimate choice of galvanized steel provides CalTrans with a durable, abrasion resistant facility
Angle and tube were used for the service platforms and W8 X 35# wide flange beams for the rail pedestals supporting the track in the maintenance pits. With a critical schedule and tight budget constraining the overall project, hot-dip galvanizing delivered according to the project manager requirements. The ultimate choice of galvanized steel provides CalTrans with a durable, abrasion resistant facility requiring zero maintenance, and allows them to focus on improving passenger rail service.
