All About That Bass!

Nothing represents Hamilton, Indiana, on the shores of Lake Hamilton more than sport fishing for large-mouth bass. When the planning committee for the Hamilton Days celebration considered a project for fundraising and artistic expression they settled on steel cutouts of large-mouth bass. These would be painted by local artists, placed on display and sold at auction at the end of the summer season.

By the time the steel cutouts were fabricated and shipped to Hamilton, rust had already started to form. Something had to be done to preserve the project. Town Manager, Brent Schull suggested the committee contact the local galvanizer to solve the problem. The galvanizer was glad to provide the galvanizing and to also fabricate the mounting stands for display at no charge.

By the time the July 4th Holiday rolled around, 17 unique large-mouth bass sculptures decorated the streets of Hamilton for all to see. The fund raiser was well publicized and an auction was scheduled for late August at the Hamilton Days evening concert. The auctioneer Randy Nickols initial suggestion of a $1000.00 opening bid met with laughter from the crowd. Laughter soon turned to excitement as by the end of the auction one fish had been sold for $3,100.00. The entire "school" of large-mouth Bass went for just over $12,000.00 benefiting the Town of Hamilton Youth Parks Program.

The galvanizer preserved the corrosion free life of the project by donating corrosion protection from hot dip galvanizing. Now as you visit Hamilton, Indiana, you will see the unique representation of the citys recreational attraction.
