ZINKPOWER USA Company was formed in 2018 with the goal of bringing the most environmentally friendly hot-dip galvanizing process to the United States. About that time, Stoughton Trailers, Inc. was looking for just such a partner to responsibly expand their galvanized dry freight van business in North America.
Eventually, a deal was struck and a partnership was born. Stoughton Trailers sold 13 acres of prime trailer parking space to ZINKPOWER for the construction of a world-class hot-dip galvanizing plant next door to their manufacturing plant in Stoughton, Wisconsin.
Over the past 15 years, hot-dip galvanizing has been established as the best value solution to mitigate the damage caused to vehicles and trailers.
ZINKPOWER was founded in 1973 by Willie and Magda Kopf in Germany. The guiding principles of the company included care for their employees, fair and honest dealings with their customers and environmental responsibility towards the world. Propelled by these principles, the company has grown to become one of the most successful hot-dip galvanizing companies on the planet.
A ZINKPOWER designed galvanizing plant incorporates these principles into the design and construction of the facility. Comfort for the employees, convenience and high quality for their customers and extreme care of the environment.
ZINKPOWER Stoughton has modern locker rooms with showers, a large cafeteria and heated floors to offset Wisconsin’s winter cold.
The site boasts easy access from the main highway, wide driveways and logical traffic patterns for customer delivery vehicles.
The plant itself is constructed of hot-dip galvanized steel for corrosion protection. The process bay is entirely enclosed to capture moisture vapors from the process tanks which are pulled through a wet scrubber and captured for reuse. The zinc bath has a patented enclosure that draws the air from the zinc bath through a company designed bag house which captures any particulates which are then recycled.
The structural steel for the plant was fabricated in Waco, Texas less than one mile from the HDG plant. After galvanizing, the steel was shipped to Stoughton, Wisconsin for erection. Due to the close coordination between the design engineering team, the fabricator, the galvanizer and the transportation company, ZINKPOWER Stoughton was erected in less than six months and began operations the first week of January, 2022.
ZINKPOWER Stoughton LLC is an integral part of the Stoughton Trailers corrosion prevention story. Hot-dip galvanizing has proven itself to be an extremely effective, cost competitive response to the use of de-icing chemicals across the United States and Canada. While effective at saving lives, these chemicals have proven themselves to be aggressive to vehicles traveling over them. Over the past 15 years, hot-dip galvanizing has been established as the best value solution to mitigate the damage caused to vehicles and trailers. ZINKPOWER Stoughton‘s hot-dip galvanizing plant is literally a working showroom for hot-dip galvanized steel. Trailer customers can witness the process and see the results all around them. It is a truly compelling story.
By practicing what they preach, the structural steel in this ZINKPOWER plant will be maintenance free for generations.
