Home of University of Maryland School of Medicine, the Bresler Research Center was built in 1976. Due to the ever-changing technological advances in medicine, there are constant renovations going on at this research center. Just a few of the areas of research done at this facility are cancer research, Stem cell research, Genomics, and Cardiovascular.
In addition to the renovations done in the research center, the building itself has had many upgrades. One of which is updated heating and cooling units on the roof of the 15-story building looking over downtown Baltimore and the local sports stadiums. As these systems get older, more and more maintenance is needed on top of the roof. To streamline this process, a maintenance bay has been added which will house an overhead crane. The overhead crane will assist in moving and temporarily raising equipment to ease the maintenance process.

Due to the steel being externally exposed, hot-dip galvanizing was an easy choice regarding coatings. Corrosion protection and longevity were not the only advantage that HDG offers though, as the durability of the coating is also beneficial when moving equipment in and around the structure. This is not the first project that this contractor has done for university buildings in this area of the city, and they stated each of these types of projects will be specified for HDG due to the corrosion protection, durability, and aesthetics.
