For years the Utica Zoo wanted to give their Gibbons a larger, nicer, more comfortable space. The zoo diligently fund raised and saved to make this happen.
The gibbons now have space to freely move throughout the exhibit in a more naturalistic setting while making it aesthetically pleasing and non-intrusive to our visitors. The professional manufacturing of the posts and hardware helped us accomplish this goal.” Andria Heath, Utica Zoo
The gibbons at the Utica Zoo are a popular attraction as they are very active and the public, especially kids, love to watch them swing around the enclosure. The existing enclosure was small and did not give the gibbons the space they needed. The project was to convert an obsolete holding area over to a gibbon area. This was installed while the zoo was active and open to the public. The public was allowed within ten feet of the work area. The project consisted of an exterior exhibit area and a new interior holding cage for the animals. Gibbons are extremely smart and required a special door with a double locking mechanism to contain the primates.
