The hot-dip galvanized (HDG) coating is hard enough to stand up to the consistent bombardment of wind-blown sand coming off of the beach. The cathodic properties of zinc in the HDG coating make it the perfect corrosion protection package for this corrosive environment.
The initial cost of galvanizing was comparable to paint, and the life-cycle costs will be dramatically less. The quality of HDG is readily apparent in the complete coverage it supplies including the interior of the hollow members. The turn-time for galvanizing was quick with no interuptions due to weather as there would have been if it were to be painted. The framework has a nice even finish and fits right in with its environment.
