Rolland Beaudin Park has become a hub for outdoor cultural events in historic Québec City. A wide variety of musical acts from hard rock bands to classical ensembles as well as comedy and variety shows perform in this urban park. The construction of a multi-functional stage was needed to provide an aesthetically pleasing structure that provided visual impact while protecting the entertainers and their equipment from precipitation.
The high-strength and durability of galvanized steel allowed the structure to have a flair of 'lightness'.
This new stage has a fully hot-dip galvanized structure covered with a fine translucent membrane. The complex, multiple curvatures of the wings were a challenge for both the fabricator and galvanizer. Careful cooperation during the design and fabrication process ensured the end product (the bones) would have the desired beautiful natural appearance of galvanized steel with surface smoothness to prevent damage to the fragile feathers membrane system.
Since its completion in September, the venue is regularly entertaining audiences with a wide variety of artists, both local and from around the world. During a show under the stars, the visual impact and symbolism of the stage is at its best. Hot-dip galvanized steel will ensure both present and future generations will equally enjoy the sights and sounds of outdoor shows in this beautiful venue.
