The Riteway Bus Station in Milwaukee, Wisconsin utilizes alternative energy with its solar panel roof. All structural supporting steel for the solar panels was hot-dip galvanized in order to protect the steel from the humid summers and cold winters incurred in Milwaukee. Hot-dip galvanizing is becoming the coating of preference in the alternative energy market due to its long life-cycle and the fact that it is maintenance free. Since zinc is a naturally occurring element and hot-dip galvanized steel is 100% recyclable at the end of its life-cycle, HDG coating is essential in the sustainability-focused alternative energy market. Because the panels are supported by galvanized steel, this bus station will be able to operate smoothly without worry for many years.
