This park called for hot-dip galvanized steel to protect it from the corrosive environmental elements and harsh weather of Florida. HDG steel was chosen to provide long-term corrosion protection and a quality cosmetic appearance, as well as to provide a smooth protective coating for the handrails.
The lack of maintenance also gives HDG steel a lower life-cycle cost, as no extra resources or manpower are needed to preserve the structure
All handrails had to be internally ventilated, allowing no outside holes in an effort to protect visitors from getting fingers caught. The long-term, maintenance-free coating provided by HDG is a smart alternative to methods such as paint for corrosion protection, which require early replacement or repetitive, costly upkeep. The lack of maintenance also gives HDG steel a lower life-cycle cost, as no extra resources or manpower are needed to preserve the structure. Since HDG steel is very durable and can hold up against the toughest environments, it will ensure this park remains standing safe and strong for years to come.
