Hilton Hotels is one of the most recognized names in the hospitality industry.  Their hotels are stylish with innovative designs and forward thinking amenities.  In June 2016, Hilton at Resorts World Bimini, opened to the public.  It is located on the shore of one of the many islands in the Bahamas with its white sandy beaches and pristine waters.  It has a world class spa, with more than 10,000 square feet for event space and meetings, along with restaurants and lounges.

With the resort located in a marine environment, questions were raised as to the best way to ensure corrosion protection.  During the design stage it was determined that all the rebar used throughout the resort would have to be resistant to corrosion. A variety of corrosion resistant rebar were discussed and cost analysis performed.  Upon review it was determined that hot dip galvanized rebar offered the most efficient cost savings, along with ease of turn time.  Also, since a high percentage of the rebar would have to be formed, hot dip galvanizing ensured proper protection would be provided since the coating would be applied after fabrication.

It was determined the project would need to be delivered to the galvanizer in a progressive schedule in accordance to which floor was being poured.  Each load would be a mix of rebar from size 12 to 3, with a variety of lengths and bundle sizes per order.  The greatest obstacle to overcome during the galvanizing process was in maintaining control of the quantity and sizes, as the bars needed to be re-tagged with their proper identification once re-bundled.    A tagging method was developed to match the cut list provided by the supplier which would allow the replacement of the tags.  This allowed the work to proceed smoothly at the job site, eliminating any delays due to confusion with identifying the material for placement.
