Used as a Bellsouth Mobility cellular switching office, this structure required speedy installation on a busy highway bridge. Hot-dip galvanized steel allowed for quick turnover and fast assembly. It also needed a coating that would provide corrosion protection in the salty, misty air of New Orleans. Hot-dip galvanized steel was key to achieving these goals.
After the galvanized structure was assembled at a New Orleans job site, and a 20 ton building was added, the entire structure was loaded onto a barge and floated to the highway bridge to lower the unit into place. It only took two hours to get everything loaded into place, a testament to the ease of implementing galvanized steel structures. The toughness of the durable zinc coating allowed for fast handling and installation without any repairs or touch-up maintenance.
