The Pechanga Cultural Resource Center (PCRC), located in Temecula, California, celebrates the diverse cultures and continuity of cultural knowledge with the indigenous people residing in the surrounding area. The museum is designed to preserve collections sensitive to the tribal and museum requirements and maintain proper viewing enjoyment and preservation.
After 15 years of service, the duplex coated decorative canopy still welcomes visiting researchers.
The architect of this project wanted the outer entrance to the museum to reflect and blend with nature. The large decorative canopy frame comprised of structural steel is a stunning representation of the architect’s vision. To maintain and protect this vision, the PCRC chose to utilize a duplex system to protect the structure from corrosion.
The decorative canopy frame used a progressive dip galvanizing procedure to produce a uniform coating on the 2 tons of steel. This frame built into the building’s stone front fascia is not only visually appealing, but also highly functional with guaranteed low maintenance costs. By selecting hot-dip galvanizing, PCRC can expect decades of protection, ensuring the building will look relevant to the indigenous people for decades to come.
Today, the Pechanga Cultural Resource Center contains a state-of-the-art curation lab, artifacts repository, and a tribal research library and archives containing over 15,000 books, journals, magazines, and articles. After 15 years of service, the duplex coated decorative canopy still welcomes visiting researchers. The coating has performed very well in the environment and based on updated mil readings, should provide decades of additional protection.
