The University of Mississippis Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center ranks as one of the nations finest collegiate facilities. Located in the heart of campus and surrounded by huge magnolia trees, the tennis center underwent dramatic enhancements in 2012, complimenting an already stunning facility.
The 500 seat stadium called for painting over galvanized steel for the durability, low maintenance, safety, aesthetics and cost-effectiveness offered by the duplex coating.
The $2 million expansion included new locker rooms, team rooms, and coachs offices. HDG rooftop pavilions above each team room provide additional viewing for fans to enjoy all the exciting action.
The 500 seat stadium called for painting over galvanized steel for the durability, low maintenance, safety, aesthetics and cost-effectiveness offered by the duplex coating. The tubular rooftop pavilions held canvas awnings in place for weather and shade protection for spectators. The final appearance was smooth enough for the canvas or spectators hands to move along easily. Because the galvanized coating actually becomes harder than the steel itself, abrasion resistance would not be an issue. The specifiers were keenly aware of the need for low maintenance because budget guidelines for athletic programs were tight.
Anytime spectators are involved safety is an issue. HDG steel means the tubular handrails and columns are galvanized both inside and outside so there will be no failures due to corrosion. The handrails had to be in compliance with ADA specifications so the design was agreed upon by the fabricator and galvanizer. The aesthetics of the painted rails and columns were a perfect match for the red brick buildings and the green tennis courts. Our objective was to build a state of the art tennis center that would enhance and compliment the beauty of the campus.
The cost-effectiveness achieved by using HDG means more funds available for tournaments to attract the top players in the nation and increase the chances for championships.
