Cives Steel (Wolcott, Indiana) who was a part of the $1.1 billion OSU Project expansion that was completed in 2012, was also the fabricator for the OSU Wexner Medical Center Inpatient Hospital that was completed in March 2024. The $1.9 billion inpatient hospital tower is built with enough steel to construct two Eiffel Towers and enough piping in the building to stretch from Columbus, Ohio to the Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Arizona. The hospital is the largest capital project in Ohio State University history, it has twice as much concrete as the Ohio State Football Stadium; it’s a feat of engineering.
“Meeting the Future Now: Healing, Hope and Optimism”
Every detail of the tower was strategically planned to improve care and create the very best possible experience for patients and staff. Amenities include elevated patient-centered care with 820 fully private rooms, abundant healing light with the addition of 9-foot windows to improve patients’ recovery and wellness, reflective spaces with views out to the terrace greenery and a sanctuary for reflection and worship, innovation from smart beds to digital signs outside patient’s rooms promoting patient wellness and outcomes.
The galvanizer worked closely with Cives Steel maintaining on-time deliveries and coordinating with the fabricators changing schedule. The galvanized material was used on the mechanical floors which were floors 7 through the 10th. The heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) were at the top of the tower; consisted of the louvre support and curtain wall / clear screen wall which housed the HVAC along with American Flag overlooking the city. The galvanized project will stand the test of time for many decades to follow!!
