Because of the proven performance of hot-dip galvanizing over the years and the experience that the owner has had with galvanizing, it was only logical that they specified hot-dip galvanizing for the 600-ton (544-tonnes) pipe rack and fasteners. The project, in a highly corrosion atmosphere, was designed to connect to an existing facility, making turnaround time crucial in order to minimize downtime of the surrounding and adjoining facilities.

For 30 years, the Fina Oil & Chemical Plant has produced petrochemical products. In those 30 years, Fina has grown so large that it was time to expand its plant and build a pipe-rack structure into its existing production facilities. Not only did hot-dip galvanizing allow for the desired turnaround time, it also allowed for easy bolt-up and assembly. This quick installation timeframe was critical to the overall project's success and one of the primary reasons for selecting hot-dip galvanizing.
