Entering into the Live Oak Town Center from the north or east, one will be greeted by the towering Obelisk.
The new Live Oak Town Center Shopping center is located at the intersection of two major freeways just north of Downtown San Antonio Texas that see over 270,000 vehicles per day. The exhaust from vehicles, and air traffic from a nearby Air Force Base along with the fast-changing weather of South Central Texas was a deciding factor in galvanizing the Obelisks. Painting or Powder coating in the long term would not hold up to the extreme weather changes this area sees.
As you first enter the shopping center you will see the smaller 12 foot tall Obelisks in a pattern of three - two- and one as you enter. As you drive further, you will come to a intersection that has in its center, the three larger Obelisks. Their sizes are 30 foot, 40 foot and 50 foot tall.
American Welding & Fabrication, San Antonio constructed the Obelisks from over 16 tons of Structural Tubing with welded studs. Future additions include etched panels with frosted glass attached to enhance the artistic value of the Obelisks.
Galvanizing the Obelisks had to be processed by two galvanizing plants as the 40 and 50 foot high structures were too large for the local galvanizing plant. The 40'and 50' high structures were transported to Houston plant with a 62' kettle length.
The Obelisks at Live Oak Town Center offer a unique artistic value that are pleasing to the eye and surrounding area.
