Art comes in many forms. It can be color and depth added to a flat piece of canvas. It can be a melody played out on an instrument made of wood and steel. It can also be cold steel, reshaped and welded together that can become a beautiful piece of art. Something that will be nostalgic to some adult who remembers that piece from their childhood. Aime Jacobsen has a small company in Independence, Missouri. She owns and runs Aime Jacobsen Art & Design. She designs, welds, and builds different pieces for local businesses in the Kansas City Metro area. Originally from Colorado, she went to school in Georgia and settled in Independence, MO.
The piece is a duplex system which will give the sunflower years of maintenance free finish that will last for generations of children visiting the park.
Aime had an interest in working with metal, so she reached out to a local welding shop and started learning how to weld and work with metal, using stainless and carbon steel. She started doing pieces for businesses around the Kansas City Metro area. When the bid for Meadowbrook Park became available to submit design on, she imagined a sunflower that lights up at night. She was bidding against artists from New York and Italy. Now her design is a pathway to a park for children to enter through.
Each petal is cut and welded by hand. The piece is a duplex system which will give the sunflower years of maintenance free finish that will last for generations of children visiting the park. Each petal was mounted to an inner ring then electricity ran to each petal so they would light up at night. She is currently working on her next piece that will be outside of Castle Rock, CO.
