Located minutes from downtown Chicago, McCormick Place is one of North America's premier convention centers. Drawing nearly three million visitors annually, the highly visible center with roughly 2.7 million square feet of exhibit halls is one of the largest in the region.
A recent addition of 470,000 square feet has housed several job fairs and trade shows with great success. This new section of the convention center, comprised mainly of structural steel, needed to fit in with its surroundings and be durable, as well as providing excellent protection against corrosion. Thus, the choice was made to fully hot-dip galvanize the framework and roof supports that encompass the addition. Among the reasons to use hot-dip galvanizing include its aesthetic appeal, the ability for quick turnaround time, and the outstanding life the product ensures. The entire framework for the project received HDG to provide excellent maintenance-free protection that keeps the addition from accumulating unsightly rust and corrosion to represent what Chicago has to offer.
