Hot-dip galvanizing protects the support structure, and limits lifetime maintenance which would require the cladding and panels to be removed.
Hot-dip galvanizing was selected to protect the support core. Galvanizing was chosen as a low maintenance and low lifetime cost solution that ensures this significant investment for the fairgrounds will be available for years to come.
Each frame of this piece was unique, and the fabricator and galvanizer worked closely together to ensure that the project exceeded expectations. Each frame had to have individual drain hole placements due to their unique shapes. The galvanizer was able to collaborate with the fabricator to locate these in the least intrusive way possible, while also maintaining the highest quality.
The sustainability of galvanizing was a consideration, as all involved desired to utilize sustainable and environmentally conscious methods of production. Hot-dip galvanizing allowed for long lasting protection with minimal maintenance. This ensures over the lifetime of the piece, the cladding and panels will not have to be removed to perform maintenance on the framing, which would be a significant cost and make the art unavailable for visitors.
