Originally fabricated and erected in 1955 in Madison County, Ohio, the 102' x 18' (31m x 5.5m) bridge had severe corrosion of the steel, and rotted painted flooring in 1982 when it was removed from service. In 1983, the bridge was scaled down to a 94' (29m) long for the Hanover Road (Licking County location) and painted. Just 13 years later the bridge needed a complete re-painting but in lieu of this costly and repetitive painting maintenance, the county engineer elected to remove the bridge for the last time, galvanize it and re-install.
