Durability, craftsmanship and the power of sustainability work together to solve real-world challenges in The Industrial Pipe Couplings project. Transferring water for dewatering systems, pipes and accessories made of spherical couplings are often used in emergency situations where reliability is critical. Quickly operational and readily under pressure, the system must perform flawlessly in unpredictable conditions affected by floods and storms. This project will allow emergency crews to intervene quickly and effectively to alleviate and potentially avoid tragic circumstances.
The nature of the spherical shapes features an easy operational installation, securely latching with a forgivable self levelling attitude, leveraging the strength of thin-walled carbon steel powerfully welded to a diverse array of components to function in a demanding and diversified industrial sector. With constant contact to water and moisture throughout its use, the steel must be able to withstand the corrosive environment or consequences will ensue.
When Dallai America, the customer, was considering a corrosion protection system for the steel, hot-dip galvanizing was a perfect choice. It would be able to not only maintain the mechanical integrity of the steel but also a strong barrier against the marine environment. The metallurgically bonded zinc coating would be able to provide abrasion resistance for nearly 50-100 years down the road without compromising fit or function. Galvanizing would also offer complete coverage of each of the components, even the intricate and small crevices that paint systems would miss or be unable to reach. Plating and powder coating were also not strong enough for the specific needs of dewatering applications. These options would tarnish or flake within a short period of time and cost the customer time and money in the maintenance process to upkeep the integrity of these parts.
From start to finish, the galvanizer worked alongside the customer to provide education of the galvanizing process, communication of any expected delays or roadblocks, and a commitment to perfect quality. The project’s success was made possible through this strong partnership and every step—from design to fabrication to coating—was carefully coordinated to meet tight deadlines with ease. Through the strength of hot-dip galvanizing, these couplings will continue to serve their communities in emergency situations for nearly 100 years down the road and impact many lives in the process.
