The design of the Hummer dealership called for exposed steel on both the inside and outside of the building. The original specification was for painted steel; however, the architect felt galvanizing was a great fit for the application and changed the spec. In addition to having a few prior bad experiences, the architect thought galvanized steel more closely suited the military-style, industrial vehicle. Unsightly corrosion or constant maintenance would not suit the luxury dealership, and by specifying hot-dip galvanized steel the architect was able to ensure the project would look the same in 50 years as the day it opened.
