The project originally only had 250 tons to be galvanized with the rest of the steel receiving a 3 coat paint system. After working with DOC with the assistance of Bill at Art Iron the project was converted to 100% galvanized steel.
This was critical due to the corrosive nature of the environment of the structure.
This was critical due to the corrosive nature of the environment of the structure. DOC realized that the life-cycle cost of trying to maintain a painted structure was cost prohibitive for the City of Detroit. Therefore, all of the steel including the steel on the inside of the structure which will never be subjected to weather was galvanized as well. This will give the City of Detroit lasting corrosion protection for years to come and the will save significantly on the maintenance of the Bio Solid facility.
