CloseTransportation was not the only challenge faced by those involved in the CHARA array telescope project. Located in the uneven terrain of Califronia's San Gabriel Mountains, where temperature extremes can be very damaging, the telescopes need to be weather resistant, maintenance free, and visually harmonious with their environment.
Designed to allow astronomers to track the birth, evolution, and orbits of starts, possibly even discovering new planets - and with the remarkable ability to view a nickel from 10,000 miles - the intelligent use of galvanized steel will allow generations of astronomers to define and interpret how we understand our universe.
