In an effort to take advantage of its large parking lots, the Center Moriches High School has launched a green energy project that will greatly reduce its energy costs. The project, better known as an Energy Performance Contract (EPC), calls for the construction of solar carports solar panels as well as lighting upgrades.
They will produce electricity that will partially offset Center Moriches High School’s electric bill.
The solar canopies will be the most visible part of the upgrades. They will produce electricity that will partially offset Center Moriches High School’s electric bill. The school will also see interior and exterior lights replaced with state-of-the-art LED lights and fixtures that be significantly more efficient than the current lighting units that are in areas comprised of decades old technology. The improved insulation and weatherization will also decrease energy needs.
Center Moriches High School is participating in an energy performance project that just installed three solar canopies throughout the school’s parking lot. With 400 solar modules and energy performance, the canopies are equipped with charging stations for electric cars.
These solar canopies are all constructed from 100 tons of hot-dip galvanized steel columns, steel tube arms and purlins. The heavy W27x68 x 15’ tall columns and 38’ long purlins created longer spans to use little parking spaces as possible. Each Canopy is turned around a truck load of steel every 24 hours for a seamless installation for Tebbens Steel.
