This structure was built to load limestone onto freighters on the Great Lakes. This 125 long piece of equipment makes up 250 tons of steel. Hot-Dip Galvanizing was chosen after failure of other coating systems. The Galvanizer conducted a seminar for the designer, Kodiak Group, in Grayling, Michigan. The harsh Northern Michigan winters and the Marine like environment proved to not affect the Galvanized test panels installed in prior years. Based on this, the decision was made to Hot-Dip Galvanize the entire structure. The Galvanizer helped with the design work to make sure all pieces could be accommodated in the local Kettle.
