In the heart of Boca Raton, Florida, an enhancement project took place to revamp the Boca Raton City Patch Reef Park. Two main factors stood out for the project members involved in this upgrade: Comfort and Functionality. For years, this park has been able to provide a place for families to gather, children to play and the community to connect with each other. The Greater Boca Raton Beach and Park District as well as the City of Boca Raton met to strategize the upgrades to the park, ensuring that the investment would be long-term and long-lasting.

During the design process, the vision came to life through the addition of structural steel canopies and the restroom entrances. The fabricator for the project, All Pro Fabricators & Erectors sought a coating protection system that would need to handle the harsh Florida heat as well as the constant wear of public use over time. Located within proximity to Florida’s Atlantic coastline, the steel used in this project would face year-round impact from the salty air, intense heat and weather shifts. Galvanizing offered the most durable and cost-effective solution and would be able to endure the elements with ease nearly 50-100 years down the road. By forming a metallurgical bond between the zinc and steel, galvanizing creates a self-healing layer of corrosion protection.

Combined with galvanizing, a duplex coating system was specified for the revamp project. Choosing to paint over the galvanized steel meant that the structures would nearly double their expected life cycle. Vibrant paint colors were introduced to the project, complimenting the park’s design and further providing a welcoming and cohesive design for the community of Boca Raton.

From start to finish, the fabricator was in communication with the galvanizer to ensure a seamless flow of production, while maintaining all project deadlines. The galvanizer was able to provide a wealth of expertise regarding the galvanizing process by educating the fabricator on vent and drain hole placement, achieving a premium quality coating and ultimately providing a product that the customer would be proud of.

Standing strong long into the future, the Boca Raton Patch Reef Park will be the focal point of community gatherings for families and locals around the area. Hundreds of thousands of people will have the opportunity to experience this beautiful revamp nearly 100 years down the road thanks to galvanizing.
